Regulator function

The National VET Regulator’s functions are set out at section 157 of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011.

These include the registration and regulation of registered training organisations (RTOs), accreditation of courses, promoting the continuous improvement of an RTO’s capacity to provide training, providing advice to Minsters on vocational education and training, and regulation of providers offering courses to overseas students.

Regulated community

  • ASQA regulates approximately 3,700 training providers comprising of all providers in referring jurisdictions (ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, Tas), and providers in WA and Vic that provide or offer courses to students studying in referring states.
  • ASQA regulates all training providers listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), including those providers delivering English language intensive courses (ELICOS).
  • ASQA also approves and regulates VET Accredited Courses that may be delivered by training providers.
